Metro Police Chief Assures Thorough Investigation into Acid Attack on Activist Andrie Yunus

Jakarta, Kompas.com — The Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, has assured that the case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus will be investigated thoroughly.

This commitment aligns with directives from President Prabowo Subianto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

“In accordance with the President’s directive and the instruction from the National Police Chief to ensure all stages are conducted professionally, transparently, and processed to completion,” said Inspector General Asep Edi during a press conference on Monday (16 March 2026).

“We affirm our commitment to handling this matter professionally, transparently, and accountably,” he stated.

According to him, the police have disclosed the case with careful consideration to avoid unfounded speculation.

“Information provided to the public has been verified and does not create speculation or misperception amongst the community,” he said.

Previously reported, KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by unidentified perpetrators on Thursday evening. According to Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS’s Working Body, the incident occurred at 23:37 local time as Andrie Yunus was riding his motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta.

The first perpetrator, who was driving the motorcycle, wore a white-and-blue combination t-shirt, dark trousers believed to be denim, and a black helmet.

The second perpetrator, seated at the back, wore a face covering or black mask resembling a buff that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers folded to knee length and believed to be denim.

One perpetrator then threw acid towards the victim, striking parts of his body. Andrie sustained burn injuries to both hands, face, chest, and eyes.
