Metro Jaya Regional Police Uncover Circulation of Thousands of Illegal Illicit Drugs in North Jakarta
The Water and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police has uncovered an alleged criminal act involving the distribution of unauthorised pharmaceutical preparations in the Muara Baru Port area, Penjaring, North Jakarta, arresting three suspects alongside thousands of illegal potent drug tablets.
The Director of Water and Air Police of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Mustofa, stated in Jakarta on Monday that the disclosure was carried out by the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of Ditpolairud on Saturday (6/6) at approximately 18:13 WIB on Jalan Muara Baru.
“This disclosure is the result of developing information obtained by officers in the field. Based on the information we received, officers then conducted further investigations until they located the site suspected to be a storage and sales point for unauthorised potent drugs in the Muara Baru area,” said Mustofa.
He noted that the three individuals arrested were identified by the initials JA (23), who works as the Deputy Chief Engineer of a vessel, as well as N (45) and RR (28), who acted as the owners and attendants of a cosmetics shop that sold the illicit drugs.
He further explained that the case originated from community reports regarding the suspected circulation of potent drugs without permits or doctor’s prescriptions within the waters and port areas. Officers subsequently conducted an investigation and inspected the vessel KM Hasil Kerja Keras, which was preparing to sail from Muara Baru Port to the open sea.
During the inspection, officers discovered a crew member, identified by the initials JA, storing one bottle containing 1,000 tablets of the potent drug Hexymer 2 mg, intended for resale to other vessel crews.
From the search, police seized various pieces of evidence, including 40 tablets of Mersi Riklona, 8,000 tablets of Tramadol, 8,000 tablets of Hexymer in bottled packaging, 3,814 tablets of Hexymer in small packets, and 3,430 tablets of Trihexyphenidyl.
Mustofa emphasised that the illegal circulation of potent drugs is extremely dangerous due to the potential for misuse and the threat to public health, particularly among adolescents and productive-age workers in the port area.
“We are committed to continuing enforcement against the circulation of illegal potent drugs. This is a form of protection for the community against drug abuse that can damage health and cause disturbances to public order and security,” Mustofa asserted.
Currently, the three suspects and all the evidence have been taken to the Metro Jaya Regional Police Ditpolairud Headquarters for further investigation. For their actions, the perpetrators face charges under alleged violations of Articles 435 and/or 436 of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Adjustment of Criminal Law.
