Jakarta – The Metro Jaya Police Directorate of Traffic has urged freight transport business operators, particularly those using three-axle trucks, to comply with the operational restrictions on cargo transport.

“We call upon business operators, including transporters, to adhere to the restrictions on the use of three-axle vehicles,” said Metro Jaya Police Traffic Director Kombes Pol Komarudin during an interview in Jakarta on Monday.

The appeal is based on a Joint Decision Letter (SKB) on Traffic Flow Arrangements and Crossings during the Eid Lebaran homecoming and return journey period in 2026. This decision contains regulations on operational restrictions for cargo transport.

The joint decision, signed by the Director General of Land Transport Aan Suhanan, the Director General of Marine Transport Muhammad Masyhud, the Director General of Road Infrastructure Roy Rizali Anwar, and the Head of the Police Traffic Corps Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho, establishes the framework for these restrictions.

Komarudin stated that the measure is intended to facilitate smooth traffic flow, ensuring that road segments expected to be crowded with private vehicles of homebound travellers will not be hindered by the operational activities of three-axle and larger cargo trucks.

“However, should there be any activities or actions that could potentially threaten the safety of other road users, we will not hesitate to take firm action,” Komarudin said.

The Ministry of Transport announced that the government will impose operational restrictions on cargo transport during the Eid Lebaran transport season on 13-29 March 2026 to ensure smooth homebound and return traffic flows.

“The operational restrictions on cargo transport during the Eid Lebaran season will be enforced continuously from 13 March 2026 at 12:00 local time until 29 March 2026 at 24:00 local time,” said the Director General of Land Transport Aan Suhanan.

The regulations apply to both toll roads and arterial roads. Cargo transport restrictions apply to trucks with three or more axles, trucks with trailers, tandem trailers, and cargo vehicles carrying mining products, minerals, and building materials.

“Goods distribution may still be carried out using two-axle vehicles, except for mining products such as soil, sand, stone, minerals, and building materials such as iron, cement, and timber,” Suhanan explained.

Cargo vehicles exempted from the restrictions and permitted to continue operating with three or more axles include those transporting fuel and liquefied gas, livestock, fertiliser, and disaster relief supplies. Additionally, essential goods are exempt provided the vehicle’s cargo does not exceed the weight and dimension limits specified in a contract or agreement between the goods owner and the transport operator.

Vehicles permitted to operate must still carry shipping documents with certain specifications, including those issued by the goods owner, and containing details of the goods type, destination, and the owner’s name and address.
