Metro Jaya Police Uncover 'Pil Jin' Factory in Semarang and Jakarta, Four Arrested

The Metro Jaya Police have arrested four individuals involved in the production of ‘koplo’ or ‘jin’ pills in Semarang, Central Java, and Jakarta. The suspects used a modus operandi of manufacturing the illicit substances inside an animal feed warehouse. ‘We uncovered a home industry clandestine laboratory for narcotics of the Carisoprodol type, known as jin pills or koplo pills, in two locations, Semarang and Jakarta,’ said Metro Jaya Police Narcotics Director Senior Commissioner Ahmad David during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (26/6/2026). He stated that the four arrested suspects played roles as financiers, providers of precursor facilities and equipment, mixers, and sales seekers. During the operation, police seized 308,000 Carisoprodol pills and 2,587.8 tonnes of Carisoprodol precursor. ‘The modus operandi was that the perpetrators produced the Carisoprodol narcotics by disguising the operation as an animal feed warehouse so as not to arouse suspicion from local residents,’ he explained. In a related development, Polda Metro Jaya reported the arrest of 5,196 drug-related suspects between January and June 2026. Of these, 19 acted as producers, 1,914 as dealers, and 3,263 as users. For users, restorative justice measures are being applied through medical and social rehabilitation, in accordance with Article 54 of Law Number 35 of 2009. The total suspects comprised 4,739 men, 457 women, 16 minors, and 39 foreign nationals from 15 countries. The total evidence seized during this period included 53,709,512 pharmaceutical pills, 2.87 tonnes of Carisoprodol precursor, 355.39 kilograms of marijuana, 197.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, 16,956 vape cartridges, 33.88 kilograms of etomidate powder, 19.78 kilograms of ecstasy powder, 29,289 ecstasy pills, 16.80 kilograms of ketamine, 10.66 kilograms of synthetic tobacco, 5.37 kilograms of happy water, 5.29 kilograms of synthetic seed liquid, 2.66 kilograms of THC liquid, 5,208 happy five pills, 1.08 kilograms of cocaine, and 306.91 grams of MDMB-INACA liquid. The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, affirmed the force’s commitment to law enforcement in eradicating drug trafficking and abuse, adding that investigators are continuing to develop the case to uncover larger networks.
