Metro Jaya Police Uncover Alleged Hoarding of Thousands of Motorcycles in South Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Subdirectorate of Land and Motor Vehicle Crimes at the Metro Jaya Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered allegations of hoarding and smuggling thousands of illegal motorcycles on Jalan Kemandoran, Grogol Utara, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imannudin, explained that his team had secured 1,494 motorcycle units and designated one suspect with the initials WS at the location.
“The details are 957 units still in intact condition and 537 other units already in dismantled condition,” said Iman.
He stated that the vehicles are suspected to originate from criminal acts because the related parties could not provide proof of legal ownership, such as invoices or other vehicle documents.
“Currently, only one suspect has been designated. However, the investigation is still being developed because this case is suspected to involve an interconnected network,” Iman explained.
He mentioned that based on the investigators’ in-depth examination, the vehicles come from various criminal acts. The suspect hoarded thousands of vehicles in a special warehouse.
“Some vehicles were also dismantled of their components to make them easier to pack or disguise. Then, they were sent illegally to international markets, including to Tahiti and Togo,” said Iman.
“Practices like this pose a serious threat. Hoarding places for vehicles without valid documents can become spaces for repeated motor vehicle crimes in society,” said Budi.
He revealed that the public, dealers, business actors, or financing institutions who feel they have a connection to the vehicles being investigated can coordinate with the investigators. He also assured that the legal process would be carried out professionally, transparently, and upholding the presumption of innocence principle.
