Metro Jaya Police Uncover 3,800 Drug Cases, Claim to Have Saved 15 Million Lives
Polda Metro Jaya, in collaboration with its subordinate precincts, has uncovered 3,800 drug cases during the period from January to June 2026. The seized evidence is valued at trillions of rupiah. Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri stated that the confiscated evidence totalled 17.45 tonnes, with an estimated value of IDR 1.7 trillion. He noted that these operations, which also targeted gambling and money laundering, demonstrate the police’s commitment to supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s ‘Asta Cita’ vision.
Director of Drug Investigation for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Ahmad David, detailed that 5,196 suspects have been named. Among them, 19 individuals were identified as producers, while 3,263 were classified as users. The suspects include 4,739 men, 457 women, 16 minors, and 39 foreign nationals from 15 different countries. Evidence that has been legally approved for disposal has been destroyed.
A breakdown of the seized narcotics includes 13.42 tonnes of dangerous prescription drugs, 2.587 tonnes of carisoprodol precursor, 314,000 ecstasy pills, 355.69 kilograms of cannabis, 197.50 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and 16,596 cartridges of etomidate vape liquid. Other items seized include 33.88 kilograms of etomidate powder, 19.78 kilograms of ecstasy powder, 16.80 kilograms of ketamine, 10.66 kilograms of synthetic tobacco, 5.37 kilograms of ‘happy water’, 5.29 kilograms of synthetic liquid precursor, 2.66 kilograms of THC liquid, 5,208 ‘happy five’ pills, 1.08 kilograms of cocaine, and 306.91 grams of MDMB-INACA liquid.
Senior Commissioner Ahmad David emphasised that the significance of these seizures goes beyond the sheer volume of evidence. He stated that by intercepting these drugs, Polda Metro Jaya has successfully saved approximately 15 million people from the threat of narcotics. For the 3,263 suspects identified as users, the police are applying restorative justice by placing them in medical and social rehabilitation programmes, in accordance with Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.
