Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and the Samapata Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya deployed Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) vehicles to spray water along several roads on Sunday (6/9). The spraying was carried out to clean up volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

The spraying was not limited to Jakarta; it was also carried out in South Tangerang and Bekasi Regency. According to a written statement from Polda Metro Jaya, the spraying was conducted to dampen road surfaces so that deposited ash would not easily become airborne.

Brimob deployed AWC vehicles from several battalions to handle a number of road sections. Meanwhile, Samapta also deployed three AWC units to help reduce the volcanic dust in the air.

In addition to spraying, personnel in the field also reminded members of the public to wear masks, look after their health and follow the instructions of officials.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of Polda Metro Jaya, Police Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the deployment of personnel and supporting equipment was a police measure to assist the public amid the volcanic ash conditions.

“Our personnel are on standby to help the public. We urge residents to remain calm, wear masks, look after their health, and follow the instructions of officials as well as official government information,” he said.

Polda Metro Jaya has assured that personnel and supporting equipment will remain on standby to provide services and help the public deal with the impact of the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
