Metro Jaya Police Oversee Hotel Sultan Execution, Prioritise Persuasive Dialogue
Polda Metro Jaya is prioritising dialogue and a persuasive approach in overseeing the execution of the eviction of state-owned assets (BMN) in Block 15 of the former Hotel Sultan area, within the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex, Central Jakarta. This approach aims to ensure the safety of all parties involved. The execution of the former Hotel Sultan is being secured by 3,161 joint personnel from Polda Metro Jaya, the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Fire and Rescue Service (Damkar), GBK security (Pamdal GBK), and a medical team from the DKI Jakarta Health Office, with the primary instruction to oversee the legal process peacefully, professionally, and humanely. Officers acted sympathetically from the start of the execution phase, when the Central Jakarta District Court bailiff team read out the civil execution order related to case Number 208/Pdt.G/2025/PN.Jkt.Pst. Using loudspeakers, officers delivered appeals in a polite tone, urging the mass groups occupying the hotel area to vacate the premises voluntarily for the smooth running of the process. Beyond issuing appeals, security personnel on the ground also opened extensive lines of communication. Officers specifically took the time to listen carefully to the grievances and aspirations conveyed by representatives of the mass groups. This step was taken as a form of respect for citizens’ rights to expression before they were asked to leave the execution zone in an orderly and amicable manner. However, the conducive situation was regrettably disrupted when some groups of the masses became agitated and began throwing stones and hard objects at the officers’ barricades. In order to protect the wider public and prevent the spread of anarchism, officers carried out measured crowd restriction and dispersal to ensure the remaining stages of the building eviction could be completed safely. The scuffles and stone-throwing incident resulted in dozens of injuries. Without discrimination, a medical team from the Polda Metro Jaya Medical and Health Division (Bid Dokkes) was immediately deployed to the conflict point to provide emergency treatment to all victims, consisting of 28 police officers, 1 TNI member, and 2 civilians. For the police, the safety of every human life on the ground—both officers and the public—is the highest and most precious priority. To restore order and investigate the masterminds behind the violence and obstruction of duty, officers detained 119 individuals and brought them to the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters. This step was taken to protect them from potentially more dangerous escalation, while also mapping out which groups were occupying the area illegally and investigating the intellectual actors who financed the mass mobilisation. The Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, expressed deep concern over the casualties during the state asset eviction operation. He stressed that the law must be enforced with a cool head and mutual respect. ‘We deeply regret the tension that led to injuries among our colleagues from the Police, TNI, and our civilian brothers. Fundamentally, our presence here is to serve and ensure legal certainty proceeds peacefully for all parties. The act of obstructing the execution of a court decision that has permanent legal force (inkracht)—whether in a civil case or the attached State Administrative Court lawsuit—is not only against the law but also violates the principle of res judicata pro veritate habetur, that a court ruling must be considered correct and respected by every citizen for the sake of public order,’ explained Commissioner Budi Hermanto. Polda Metro Jaya ensures that the entire series of executions for Block 15 of the former Hotel Sultan state asset is carried out with full accountability and transparency. The police appeal to the hearts of all members of the public, especially residents around Senayan, to remain calm, think clearly, and not be easily provoked by one-sided narratives on social media that deliberately incite division. The public is urged to entrust the entire resolution of this dispute to the legal corridor and the legitimate judicial institutions. If residents see any suspicious mass movements or need security and traffic management assistance around the GBK area, they are encouraged to contact the nearest officer or access the free, official Police 110 hotline service.
