Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Metro Jaya Regional Police launched the ‘Keep Jakarta Clean and Beautiful’ movement as an effort to cultivate an environmentally aware culture within the police from the ground up, starting with waste sorting in the workplace.

The activity began with a roll-call ceremony at the Presisi Stadium of the Metro Jaya Regional Police on Saturday, led by Deputy Chief of Metro Jaya Police, Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono.

‘This morning, the Metro Jaya Police force conducted the waste-sorting launch roll-call as a follow-up to the order of the Chief of Police,’ he said in Jakarta on Saturday.

Dekananto explained that the movement will be carried out across all levels, from the Polda to the Polres and Polsek under their respective jurisdictions.

He noted that the launch is not merely ceremonial, but a first step toward building a new habit of keeping the environment clean.

The programme is also aligned with government policies on urban waste management and efforts to raise collective awareness to sort waste from the source.

‘Hari ini Bapak Kapolda dan seluruh jajaran, termasuk Polres dan Polsek, juga melakukan pencanangan pilah sampah sebagai bagian dari budaya bersih dan asri di lingkungan Polda Metro Jaya,’ katanya.

In the event, about 1,000 personnel from 29 satker of Polda Metro Jaya participated.

Additionally, 2,440 personnel from 13 Polres and 2,939 from 102 Polsek were involved.

After the roll-call, personnel immediately moved to engage in cleanliness activities and environmental tidy-up around the Metro Jaya Police area.

Similar activities were also carried out simultaneously by the Polres and Polsek units in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya.

Not only police personnel were involved; the Metro Jaya Police also invited representatives from community organizations in Jakarta and its surroundings as a form of collaboration between the Polri and the community in keeping the environment clean.

‘Polda Metro Jaya bersama masyarakat mari kita bahu-membahu dan bersinergi dalam persoalan sampah ini,’ he said.

As a tangible action, Polda Metro Jaya has provided segregated waste bins at various points.

In total, 465 segregated waste bin units were prepared within the Metro Jaya environment, 123 units at the affiliated Polres, and 233 units at the affiliated Polsek.

The waste-bin facilities are divided into three types: organic, non-organic, and hazardous and toxic materials (B3).

Providing these facilities is expected to encourage personnel to habituate to sorting waste consistently and sustainably.

Dekananto emphasised that the waste issue may seem simple, but it can become a major problem if not managed properly. Therefore, a culture of cleanliness must be built from the nearest environment and carried out continuously.

‘The waste issue may seem simple, but if we do not manage it properly, consistently and sustainably, it will become a major problem,’ he said.

He added that the Jaga Jakarta Bersih dan Asri movement is part of the Metro Jaya Police’s commitment to be present in a humane manner in society.

Polri is not only tasked with maintaining security and public order (kamtibmas), but also with promoting environmental stewardship.

‘Polri wants to continue to present a humane face, not only in maintaining kamtibmas, but also through care for the environment. The spirit of Jaga Jakarta must start from simple things, including keeping the cleanliness and beauty of the environment,’ Dekananto concluded.
