Metro Jaya Police Investigate Alleged Child Exploitation in Vape Promotion

The Directorate of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking (PPA PPO) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police is investigating an alleged case of child exploitation linked to the promotion of electronic cigarettes, or vapes. The investigation follows a complaint filed by an individual identified as TP through their legal representative on 31 July 2026.

Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed that investigators have taken initial steps to probe the report. “Investigators have requested information from the complainant and are examining the digital materials and documents obtained,” Budi Hermanto stated in Jakarta on Tuesday (4/8). The clarification process with the complainant, TP, was conducted on Sunday (2/8).

As part of the investigation, officers visited a location in South Jakarta suspected to be connected to the incident on Monday (3/8). During this visit, police sought information from the parents and the four children who appeared in the promotional video. On the same day, investigators also visited the office of PT TLI in North Jakarta to examine documents related to the working relationship between the company and a YouTuber identified as MJ. Digital evidence, including live-stream recordings, video clips, and screenshots, was secured.

Budi Hermanto added that the police plan to summon a witness identified as F and representatives from PT TLI for further questioning. He stressed that the legal process will proceed in accordance with regulations while prioritising the protection of the children’s identities and their best interests. “We are conducting clarifications with the reported party and coordinating with experts to complete the investigation process,” he concluded.
