Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, emphasised that the Begal-Hunting Team continues to work to uncover cases that have not yet been disclosed and to safeguard Jakarta. “There are still 413 cases that we are resolving,” he said at a press conference at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters on Friday. Iman explained that the total number of suspects arrested by the Begal-Hunting Team is 38, while 135 suspects have been prosecuted by Polres units within the jurisdiction of the Metro Jaya Police. He also stated that 466 pieces of evidence have been seized. These include 84 handheld devices, 69 motorcycles, 8 firearms with ammunition, and 45 bladed weapons. “Furthermore there are 240 other pieces of evidence such as clothing, CCTV footage, and items resulting from the criminals’ actions,” Iman said. Namely, Article 476 (ordinary theft), Article 477 (petty theft), Article 479 (theft with violence/begging), Article 306 (possession and distribution of illegal firearms, ammunition, and explosive materials) with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. “We ensure that all legal processes are conducted professionally, transparently, and accountably,” he said. For suspects who resisted or attempted to flee at the time of arrest, he said, firm and measured actions have been taken. “Of course the firm and measured actions we have taken are based on considerations of public safety at the moment of arrest, and the safety of our personnel in the field who are performing their duties,” Iman said. This is in accordance with Chief of Police Regulation (Perkap) No. 1 of 2009 on the Use of Force in Police Actions, as well as Law No. 2 of 2002 governing duties and powers.
