Metro Jaya Police Emphasise Humane Approach, Officers Not Armed for Protests
Polda Metro Jaya held a joint assembly regarding security for the visit of President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the State Palace. The assembly also addressed planned actions by students at several points across Jakarta.
The assembly was led by the Director of Vital Object Security (Dirpamobvit) of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Joko Sulistio. In his address, he instructed police ranks to act humanely towards demonstrators.
“First, carry out duties humanely and in a measured way. Do not be easily provoked, face them with patience, calmness and proportionality. And remember well that law enforcement is the last resort,” Joko said at the DPR RI building field in Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026).
“Second, no firearms. I repeat, no firearms. Propam must ensure and video-record the inspection of main equipment and special equipment for all personnel before duty,” he continued.
He also asked ranks to ensure the VIP route for the German President is sterile and controlled. Joko requested personnel secure the route from Halim, Sudirman, Gatot Subroto to Asia Afrika.
“Colleagues, today along with the duty of servicing public demonstrations, Jakarta is also receiving a visit from the German President. The traffic route, the crossing route passes from Halim, Sudirman, Gatot Subroto, Gerbang Pemuda, Asia Afrika to the TVRI area,” Joko said.
“Therefore, along that route it must be ensured sterile, safe and controlled. No demonstrators are allowed to spread or shift to the VIP crossing route. The TVRI area receives special attention because it directly intersects with vulnerable points of mass movement,” he added.
Demonstrations at DPR to Monas
On the same occasion, Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Budi Hermanto said his party together with Kodam Jaya deployed 3,588 personnel to secure the demonstrations. He stressed that the interests of other members of the public must not be sacrificed.
“Furthermore, we convey the second community activity agenda regarding the expression of aspirations in public. Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya have deployed 3,588 combined TNI-Polri personnel from the Transportation Agency, Satpol PP, and supporting police precincts,” he said.
Budi mentioned there are several protest points in Jakarta today. Among them are the DPR/MPR RI Building, Silang Monas and around Dukuh Atas.
“There are several agenda points for today’s action, the first is where we are now, namely DPR/MPR, the second is around Silang Monas, the third is around the HI Roundabout, Dukuh Atas, this will also be carried out, the fourth is the office of BGN of the Republic of Indonesia,” he added.
