Metro Jaya Police Detain Teenager Indicated for Drug Abuse During Patrol in Bekasi

The Mobile Brigade Unit (Satbrimob) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police detained a teenager indicated for the abuse of illegal drugs while conducting a patrol to prevent brawls in the Bekasi Regency area of West Java in the early hours of Tuesday. In addition to detaining the teenager, the patrol successfully maintained public security and order (kamtibmas) from the potential threat of brawls and illegal street racing. “We continue to prioritise preventative measures through routine patrols in vulnerable areas. The presence of Brimob personnel on the ground is not only to keep the situation safe, but also to provide education and remind the public, especially teenagers, not to get involved in brawls, illegal racing, or drug abuse,” said Metro Jaya Police Mobile Brigade Commander, Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. Henik explained that these consistently implemented preventative patrols are part of the Indonesian National Police’s efforts to maintain environmental security while protecting the younger generation from various forms of juvenile delinquency. During the operation, officers swept a number of locations that often become gathering spots for teenagers from late night until dawn. The patrol route began from the Tegal Danas area, AEON Mall Central Cikarang, Meikarta South Cikarang, to the main routes in North Cikarang. Throughout the patrol, personnel stopped and inspected several motorists deemed potentially capable of causing public disturbances. Officers also issued humanistic appeals urging youths not to engage in brawls, illegal racing, or other actions harmful to themselves and others. While conducting the sweep, officers found a teenager who, upon inspection, was suspected of having links to illegal drug abuse activities. For further handling in accordance with applicable procedures, the teenager was immediately handed over to the Bekasi Regency Metro Resort Police. The Metro Jaya Police Mobile Brigade confirmed that until the patrol concluded towards morning, the situation across all target areas was observed to be conducive, with no incidents of brawls or illegal racing found. In relation to this incident, the Metro Jaya Police Mobile Brigade urged the public, particularly parents, to increase supervision of their children’s activities at night. “This step is considered important to prevent children from falling into negative associations, drug abuse, or actions that could disrupt environmental security,” said Henik. He also reminded the public that if they discover potential public order disturbances or require police assistance, they should immediately contact the official emergency service via the 110 call centre, which is active 24 hours a day.
