Metro Jaya Police Deploy 722 Personnel to Secure National Lunar New Year Celebration
Jakarta — The Metro Jaya Police Force has deployed a combined total of 722 personnel to provide security for the National Lunar New Year Celebration being held at Lapangan Banteng in Central Jakarta.
“The total number of personnel assigned to provide security for the National Lunar New Year Celebration 2026 is 722 personnel,” stated Kombes Polisi Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Police Force, in a statement made in Jakarta on Saturday.
The combined personnel consist of 401 officers from the Metro Jaya Police Force, 125 personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), and the remainder from the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta).
Hermanto also appealed to members of the public intending to attend the event to remain vigilant regarding their personal safety and to stay informed about traffic conditions and monitor their belongings. “If you require police assistance, please contact the Police Call Centre on 100,” he said.
The Imlek Festival 2577 – Harmoni Imlek Nusantara, the inaugural national celebration, will run from 17 February to 3 March 2026 at Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, under the banner “Harmoni Nusantara” (Indonesian Harmony).
The Lunar New Year celebration, which coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, is expected to serve as a space for reflection amongst members of different faiths and the wider community.
A series of events will be featured at the festival, including the Lantern Festival, food markets, arts and crafts exhibitions, an open-air museum showcasing Chinese-Indonesian cultural integration, as well as free health checks and various film screenings ranging from “Jumbo” to “Rainbow on Mars”.
The festival will reach its peak on 28 February 2026, featuring large-scale lion and dragon dance performances, traditional music and dance performances, national artists, and symbols of national harmony and unity.
