Metro Jaya Police Deploy 4,131 Personnel to Secure Protests Today
The Metro Jaya Regional Police have deployed 4,131 joint personnel to oversee and secure public demonstrations held by various community elements at several points in Jakarta on Thursday, ensuring activities remain safe, orderly, and do not disrupt public life.
Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained in Jakarta that the thousands of personnel would be stationed at several locations serving as mass concentration points.
“Metro Jaya Police has prepared 4,131 joint personnel to serve and secure the public’s expression of opinions. The presence of personnel in the field is to ensure activities proceed safely, orderly, and without disturbing other public activities,” Budi said.
Budi detailed that the joint personnel consist of 2,359 officers from Metro Jaya Police and 372 personnel from precinct-level police. Additionally, security is reinforced by 1,400 Operational Control Assistance (BKO) personnel, comprising 200 military personnel, 900 Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers, and 300 Sabhara officers.
“The points of personnel placement include the Monas area, the HI Roundabout/Dukuh Atas, the DPR/MPR Building, and the Ministry of Manpower Building,” he stated.
He explained that based on received reports, several community elements from student and civic organisations are scheduled to voice their aspirations in the Monas area. Meanwhile, other mass groups are concentrated around the HI Roundabout/Dukuh Atas and the Ministry of Manpower Building.
Budi further explained that the current approach to service and security prioritises preemptive and preventive measures, as well as law enforcement if violations are found. Officers in the field are also on standby to manage traffic flow, secure vital objects, and provide services to road users.
“We prioritise a persuasive and humanist approach. All personnel have been reminded to act according to procedure, not to be easily provoked, and to prioritise the safety of the public, protest participants, and officers,” he said.
Regarding traffic flow, the police will implement situational traffic diversions based on developments and dynamics observed in the field. The public is advised to avoid areas that are focal points for the protests if they do not have urgent business, in order to avoid traffic congestion.
“We urge the public to remain calm and follow the directions of officers in the field. For protest participants, please express your opinions in an orderly and peaceful manner, do not engage in anarchic acts, do not damage public facilities, and continue to respect the rights of other members of the public,” Budi said.
Metro Jaya Police also requested that the public immediately report any potential disturbances to public security and order through the nearest police service or by contacting the 110 Call Centre.
