Metro Jaya Police Deploy 14,237 Personnel to Secure Harkitnas Demonstrations
Jakarta — The Metro Jaya Regional Police have deployed 14,237 combined personnel to serve and secure activities for the expression of public opinion in commemorating National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) 2026 at several locations in Jakarta on Wednesday. The total personnel comprise 12,263 Polri officers, 500 TNI personnel, 74 local government personnel, 400 internal security personnel (Pamdal) of the DPR/MPR RI, and 1,000 Sabuk Kamtibmas or Potmas personnel, said Public Relations Division Head Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained the combined personnel were stationed in coordination with the Jaya Army to ensure public activities run safely and smoothly. ‘The Metro Jaya Police, together with Kodam Jaya, are preparing for public expression activities in a manner that safeguards the right to freedom of assembly while also addressing traffic flow issues,’ Budi said. He described the security points including the DPR/MPR RI area, Monas or Silang Selatan, the Attorney General’s Office, Pelni Building, Bawaslu RI, and the Proclamation Monument. Budi noted the presence of personnel on the ground is intended to provide a sense of security and to ensure smooth expression of aspirations by various segments of society. ‘The presence of personnel on the ground is to provide security and smooth expression of aspirations by our fellow citizens from several elements of society,’ he said. Regarding traffic management, the police will implement situational diversions as conditions on the ground develop. The public is urged to follow officers’ directions so that activities proceed in an orderly and smooth manner. The Metro Jaya Police also emphasised that they will continue to respect the public’s right to express opinions in public as guaranteed by law. In addition, participants are urged to respect public and social facilities and to continue to respect the TNI-Polri officers on duty in the field. ‘We respect the right of the people to express opinions as it is protected by law. We also urge all participants to jointly safeguard public and social facilities and to show mutual respect to the TNI-Polri officers on the ground,’ Budi said.
