Metro Jaya Police Deny Intervention in Roy Suryo and Tifa Case
The Metro Jaya Regional Police have addressed accusations of intervention in the handling of the case against suspects Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Doctor Tifa, regarding alleged false statements about President Joko Widodo’s diploma. “If there is talk of intervention, I think it is more accurately described as attempts to obstruct or disrupt the investigation process,” said Metro Jaya Police Director of General Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, on Monday. “If there are efforts, or perhaps as you have seen, involving a former official who still feels like an official and so on, we remain guided by the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) in conducting this investigation.” Iman urged all parties to use legal instruments in accordance with the KUHAP rather than relying on social media narratives. “Not through narratives on social media, not through provocative narratives that are hoaxes or untrue. All procedural provisions have their guidelines. If there are matters deemed inappropriate, there is a mechanism called a pre-trial,” he said. He also invited anyone who suspects irregularities in the investigation to report them to the internal supervisory body. The police confirmed that Roy Suryo and Tifa were arrested on Friday as part of the process to transfer the suspects and evidence to the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office, after the case file was declared complete. Police also clarified that the suspects’ rights were upheld, noting that both were taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for medical check-ups and were hospitalised based on doctors’ recommendations to ensure their health remained stable during the legal proceedings.
