Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri attended the Declaration of the Waste Sorting Movement initiated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Asep supports the waste management initiative in Jakarta to keep the capital increasingly comfortable.

The Declaration of the Waste Sorting Movement, along with the launch of Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary under the theme ‘Keep Jakarta Clean; Sort Waste’, took place at the Festival Plaza pedestrian area, Jalan Rasuna Said, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Sunday (10/05/2026).

The event serves as a follow-up to the Jakarta Governor’s Instruction No. 5 of 2026 on the obligation to sort waste at the source, whether in households, offices, or businesses. Asep stated that the waste sorting movement is an important step in maintaining environmental cleanliness in Jakarta.

“This movement is very positive for building public awareness to be more caring towards cleanliness and the environment. We support joint efforts to keep Jakarta clean and comfortable,” Asep said.

According to Asep, waste issues cannot be handled by the government alone but require the involvement of all community elements. “If done together and started from small things like sorting waste, the impact will certainly be significant for the environment,” he added.

The Metro Jaya Police supports the waste sorting movement initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Government as an effort to build public awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness amid the increasing waste volume at the Bantargebang TPST.

Asep’s presence along with other officials and figures at the event represents synergy between the National Police and local government in supporting environmental cleanliness programmes, as well as part of the 499th Jakarta Anniversary celebrations towards the 500th year in 2027.

“I believe building Jakarta cannot be done alone. Waste issues are one of them. Therefore, today, in accordance with the Governor’s Instruction, we will launch a movement to sort waste,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in his speech at the Waste Sorting Movement Declaration event.

Pramono stated that this movement will be carried out seriously. The former State Secretary hopes that waste issues can be resolved soon.

“Hopefully, this waste sorting issue, together with field leaders, we carry out earnestly and seriously as a new movement for Jakarta to sort waste,” he said.
