Metro Jaya Police Chief Pledges Careful Investigation into Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
The Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, has guaranteed that the investigation into the acid attack against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus will be conducted transparently and professionally. Asep also stated that the case disclosure would follow the principle of caution.
“In its implementation, we prioritise the principle of caution so that every piece of information conveyed to the public has been verified, thereby preventing speculation and misperceptions amongst the public,” said Inspector General Asep during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday (16 March 2026).
He stated that in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s directives, the investigation would be conducted objectively.
“We emphasise that the Metro Jaya Police are committed to handling this case professionally, transparently and accountably,” he explained.
The Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head, Police Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, added that the National Police would prioritise rapidly uncovering the terrorist act against the KontraS activist. The public could monitor the investigation process.
“The Metro Jaya Police will explain sequentially from the initial crime scene to the steps taken and future plans, ensuring this information is unbiased and not infiltrated with unverifiable information,” he explained.
Previously, the acid attack allegedly occurred on Thursday (12 March 2026) at approximately 23:30 WIB on Jalan Salemba, Senen, Central Jakarta. CCTV footage that circulated showed the alleged perpetrators as two men on a motorcycle passing through the location.
The two turned their motorcycle around until they came face-to-face with the victim. The victim, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, was sprayed with what is suspected to be acid by the perpetrators.
The victim felt severe burning sensations and dropped his motorcycle on the roadside. The victim also cried out hysterically whilst attempting to remove his clothing that had been exposed to the acid.
The victim sustained burns to his arms and face. To date, the victim remains receiving treatment at the hospital.
