Metro Jaya Police arrest 173 street crime suspects in May 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Metro Jaya Regional Police’s Directorate of General Criminal Investigation has apprehended 173 suspects from 127 street crime cases in less than a month within the capital’s jurisdiction. ‘From 1 to 22 May 2026, the Metro Jaya Regional Police alongside its district-level Resorts succeeded in uncovering 127 police reports related to acts of robbery with violence, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and motor vehicle theft,’ said Dirreskrimum Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday. Iman explained that the arrests reflect the Metro Jaya Police’s commitment to maintaining security and public order in DKI Jakarta. ‘This aligns with the Jaga Jakarta spirit, namely keeping the capital so that residents can carry on with their activities in a safe, comfortable, and orderly manner,’ he said. Iman added that of the total number of suspects, 38 were secured by the Metro Jaya Police, while 135 were secured by the resort police. ‘This achievement demonstrates that handling of street crime is being conducted seriously, comprehensively, and sustainably, at both the regional police level and the resort police,’ he said. In addition to repressive or law-enforcement steps, Iman noted that authorities have undertaken preventive and preemptive measures to the maximum. As an illustration, he said that throughout April 2026 there were 27,915 patrol activities carried out by the Patroli Perintis Presisi. Meanwhile in May, 6,520 patrol activities were recorded in the first week, 6,751 patrols in the second week, and 1,551 patrols in the third week. ‘The intensity of these activities shows that preventive efforts are being carried out consistently, measurably, and sustainably,’ Iman said. Nevertheless, the authorities will take a repressive step by enforcing the law firmly, measurably, and professionally against perpetrators who persist in committing offenses. ‘Law enforcement is the last resort or ultimum remedium after preventive and preemptive efforts have been carried out to the maximum,’ he said.
