Metro Jaya Police and Kodam Jaya Implement Preventive Measures to Prevent Anarchic Protests
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), in collaboration with Kodam Jaya, is preparing several preventive measures to prevent demonstrations from escalating into anarchic actions that could damage state facilities or cause casualties within the Jakarta region.
“We wish to convey that the expression of aspirations in public is protected under Law Number 9 of 1998. Therefore, there are specific stages and mechanisms to follow,” stated the Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to Budi, the expression of opinions in public involves stages and mechanisms that must be adhered to, ensuring that such activities can proceed safely, orderly, and without disrupting the broader interests of the community.
One of the efforts undertaken by Polda Metro Jaya, Budi noted, involves providing appeals and education to the public regarding the proper procedures for expressing aspirations.
Furthermore, Budi mentioned that every citizen possesses the right to voice their aspirations. However, this right must be exercised in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
Under Law Number 9 of 1998, there are provisions regarding the requirement to notify the police before conducting public demonstrations.
“What is the purpose? It is so that these actions can be properly escorted, and so the police can prepare the necessary number of personnel based on the number of participants,” Budi explained.
Furthermore, Budi stated that security measures are not only intended to escort protesters but also to ensure that the aspirations expressed are properly received by the intended parties.
In the context of demonstrations in Jakarta, Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya have also prepared several locations that can be used to support the orderly expression of aspirations.
“Polda Metro Jaya, together with Kodam Jaya, has prepared places—or ‘pools’, as we call them—so that these aspirations can be communicated effectively,” said Budi.
Budi noted that several grievances expressed in front of the DPR-MPR RI Building are always received because they are conducted through audiences facilitated by Polda Metro Jaya, eventually reaching the leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR).
Budi urged members of the public intending to express their aspirations to follow the established mechanisms so that protests can proceed in an orderly manner without resulting in anarchic actions.
