Metro Jaya Deputy Chief of Police Urges Personnel to Ensure Security for National Dhikr and Prayer Event at Monas

Approximately 100,000 participants from various regions are expected to attend the National Dhikr and Prayer event at the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, tonight. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have stated they are prepared to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.

“I must convey that this national dhikr and prayer activity will be attended by approximately one hundred thousand participants from Jakarta, West Java, Banten, and other surrounding areas,” said Metro Jaya Deputy Chief of Police, Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono, during a briefing at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (1/8/2026).

Dekananto noted that the National Dhikr and Prayer event is a national agenda within the series of celebrations for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. He urged his officers not to treat the event as a routine or ordinary activity.

“I reiterate that this is a national agenda, so it must not be regarded as a normative or ordinary activity,” he stated.

Polda Metro Jaya is prepared to secure the event at the Monas area, deploying a joint force of 1,263 personnel.

“On Saturday, 1 August, the national dhikr and prayer will be held as part of the 81st Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia. A total of 1,263 joint personnel, consisting of Polda Metro Jaya, the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), and local government agencies, have been deployed,” said Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Friday (31/7).

Budi stated that public access points to and from the Monas area will be provided at the east, southeast, and Ikada Field gates, while VIP guests will be directed to the west gate of Monas.

“Personnel have been positioned to provide a sense of security and comfort for all attendees, as well as to ensure that routine community activities are not disrupted,” he explained.

Budi added that parking areas have been provided for the public, and the police have completed the sterilisation of the event location as part of the security measures. Meanwhile, traffic diversions will be implemented situationally depending on field conditions. The police remain ready to secure the entire series of activities.

“Our first priority is to provide access to the participants attending the joint prayer and dhikr at Monas. Secondly, we must ensure that the general public performing their routine activities is not disturbed,” he said.

“We all hope that the joint prayer and dhikr activities, as part of the Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia, can proceed safely, orderly, and under control,” he added.
