Methamphetamine and Ecstasy Worth Rp2.8 Billion Destroyed Using a Blender
Palembang – The Narcotics Directorate of the South Sumatra Police (Polda Sumatera Selatan) held a press conference and the destruction of narcotics evidence obtained from case busts in May 2026 at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters (Mapolda Sumsel) on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The event served as a display of transparency and accountability by the police in their ongoing efforts to eradicate the drug distribution network within the jurisdiction of South Sumatra.
The destruction of the seized narcotics was the result of intensive investigations across various operations carried out by the Ditresnarkoba of the South Sumatra Police in several regencies and cities. Through prompt and methodical steps, law enforcement authorities managed to sever the distribution chain before it could spread widely among the public.
According to official investigation data, narcotics cases uncovered in May 2026 stemmed from 29 police reports, resulting in 49 suspects being detained. The suspects are believed to be traffickers, distributors, or couriers within cross-regional drug networks.
The cases were recorded across nine legal jurisdictions within South Sumatra. Palembang’s urban police district (Polrestabes Palembang) recorded the highest number of busts with nine police reports. Musi Banyuasin followed with six reports, followed by PALI and Ogan Ilir with three reports each. Additional busts were recorded in Musi Rawas, Muara Enim, and Banyuasin with two reports each. Ogan Komering Ulu Timur and Ogan Komering Ilir each had one report.
During the operation, investigators seized large quantities of narcotics including methamphetamine weighing 4,300.1 grams, ecstasy tablets amounting to 719 pills, dried cannabis weighing 17,553.25 grams, and etomidate in liquid form weighing 40 millilitres. Before destruction, a small portion of the evidence was set aside for laboratory testing and court proceedings.
The items destroyed in the event included 4,291.38 grams of methamphetamine, 680 ecstasy tablets, 17,552.85 grams of dried cannabis, and 28 millilitres of etomidate. Destruction was carried out by crushing and burning in accordance with standard narcotics evidence-handling procedures.
Economically, the total value of the seized evidence is estimated at Rp2,850,916,500. The breakdown is: methamphetamine Rp2.58 billion, ecstasy Rp179.7 million, etomidate Rp56 million, and dried cannabis Rp35.1 million. From these busts, the South Sumatra Police estimate that around 62,393 people have been spared from drug misuse.
