After years as a PlayStation 3 (PS3) exclusive since 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally confirmed to arrive on modern platforms. The legendary Konami game is scheduled for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 August 2026.
The game’s inclusion in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is seen as a response to global community concerns over game preservation. Given the unique and aging PS3 hardware architecture, legal access to Solid Snake’s final adventure was previously severely limited.
Ahead of its late-summer launch, several Japanese gaming blogs have shared one-hour gameplay clips running on PS5. According to leaks, the Master Collection version features significant technical improvements, though it is not a full remake.
Key enhancements include:
Notably, Konami has retained iconic nostalgic elements such as the in-game iPod and the mysterious message “No Place for Hideo”. Interface updates are limited to the main menu and optimised save/load systems.
Alongside Metal Gear Solid 4, the second volume’s package also includes several classic titles to complete fans’ collections, including:
Players who own data from Master Collection Vol. 1 can carry over their progress (cross-save) to the second volume.
Online multiplayer modes Metal Gear Online 2 (MGO2) and Stealth Deathmatch are absent from this release. However, online co-op support for up to six players in Peace Walker remains.
The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 bundle will retail for $49.99, or approximately £41.50. Konami is also offering a Day One Edition physical version at the same price, with select regions receiving an exclusive steelbook as a bonus collectible. (H-3)
