Jakarta (ANTARA) - Technology giant Meta is reportedly set to cut hundreds of jobs from various divisions, including sales, recruitment, and even the Reality Labs division. According to a TechCrunch report on Wednesday (25/3) local time, this information was initially reported by The Information and Bloomberg. These layoffs will not only affect employees in the US but also internationally. Nevertheless, some employees with skills and capabilities still needed by the company will be given the opportunity to relocate to continue working there, as reported by Bloomberg. Meta has confirmed the decision, describing it as a restructuring activity and an important step needed to keep the company on track with its goals. Furthermore, a Meta spokesperson added, “If possible, we are looking for other opportunities for employees whose positions may be affected.” Meta is known to employ nearly 79,000 people by the end of 2025, and this wave of layoffs will affect fewer than 1,000 employees. This latest layoff action is being taken by Meta while the company is pouring billions of dollars into artificial intelligence (AI) development. The company expects to reach a record capital expenditure in 2026, amounting to 115-135 billion USD. This latest wave of employee cuts marks the second time Meta has reduced its workforce in 2026. Previously, in January 2026, Meta had already dismissed 10 percent of its staff from the Reality Labs division. At that time, The New York Times reported that the layoffs affected around 1,000 employees out of a total of 15,000 in the Reality Labs division.
