Jakarta (ANTARA) - Meta will allow parents to view their teenagers’ conversations with Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram in its latest effort to assure parents that its platforms are safe for teenagers.

According to an Engadget report on Thursday (23/4), the company will begin displaying to parents the topics discussed by their teenagers with Meta AI over the past seven days.

In a blog post, Meta stated that the displayed conversation topics could include categories such as education, entertainment, lifestyle, travel, writing, health, and wellbeing.

The feature to monitor teenagers’ conversations with Meta AI will appear in a new tab called Insights within the teenager account supervision menu on the app and web.

Parents can tap on specific topic categories to view sub-categories. For example, the lifestyle topic includes fashion, food, and holidays.

Meta is also partnering with the Cyberbullying Research Center to introduce what it calls “conversation starters.”

Open-ended question guides to help parents initiate discussions with their children about their experiences using this artificial intelligence are available on Meta’s Family Center website.

Additionally, Meta provided information about the AI Wellbeing Expert Council, which will offer ongoing input regarding teenagers’ use of AI.

This council will include three existing advisory groups as well as new members with specific expertise in the responsible and ethical use of AI.

Meta’s latest step is announced amid increasing scrutiny over the impact of AI and social media on children and teenagers, which has prompted several countries to restrict children’s and teenagers’ access to social media platforms.
