Meta Shuts Down 185,000 Children's Accounts to Comply with PP Tunas
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has revealed that technology company Meta has shut down around 185,000 social media accounts belonging to children over the past two months. This action was taken to comply with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection, known as PP Tunas. Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Komdigi, Alexander Sabar, stated that this figure represents the latest data reported by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. “185,000 children’s accounts were closed in two months,” Alexander said when met at the Komdigi office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Alexander explained that Meta has now joined other major platforms, such as TikTok and YouTube, which had previously reported similar account closures. Based on cumulative data, the total number of children’s accounts shut down by various digital platforms as part of the PP Tunas implementation has now reached over 4.8 million accounts. Despite some tech giants beginning to show compliance, Komdigi noted that many other digital platforms have yet to submit periodic reports regarding their child protection measures and enforcement actions. The government is urging these platforms to immediately fulfil their routine reporting obligations. Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated that around 200 digital platforms have submitted self-assessments regarding their risk profiles to the government. These platforms span various sectors, including e-commerce, online gaming, and entertainment services. The government is currently evaluating these reports to determine the risk classification of each platform, aiming to ensure a safer digital space for children in Indonesia.
