Meta Services Including Facebook and Instagram Suffer Global Outage on 19 July 2026

Social media platforms under Meta — Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger — experienced widespread service disruption on Sunday (19 July). The outage left thousands of users in various countries, including Indonesia, unable to access their accounts, load their feeds, or send messages.

According to data from DownDetector, reports of disruption began to surge significantly in the late afternoon Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Apart from Indonesia, access problems were also reported in the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Myanmar.

In Singapore, a number of users even received an “Account Temporarily Unavailable” notification when attempting to log in to their Facebook accounts.

The first spike in reports was recorded at 14.46 WIB (07.46 GMT). In the United States, 4,808 users reported problems with Facebook, 63 per cent of whom complained about access via the website.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, more than 4,000 reports came in at around 14.45 WIB, the majority relating to failed access on the desktop version.

At the height of the disruption, DownDetector recorded more than 4,000 reports for Facebook and more than 1,500 for Instagram. Users’ main complaints included apps failing to load, empty feeds, and undelivered Messenger messages.

Services were reported to be gradually recovering around three hours after the peak of the outage. Monitoring at 19.40 WIB showed a drastic drop in the number of reports on DownDetector, from thousands to only dozens. Most Instagram and Messenger services were also observed to be back to normal by Sunday evening.

To date, Meta has not provided an official explanation regarding the cause of the mass disruption. There has been no confirmation as to whether the incident was triggered by a system configuration error, server problems, or other technical factors.
