Jakarta (ANTARA) - The technology company Meta is reportedly set to conduct major layoffs, cutting around 10 per cent of its workforce.

According to a Bloomberg report cited in an Engadget broadcast on Friday, the company will dismiss around 8,000 employees and eliminate approximately 6,000 job vacancies.

Meta’s Head of Human Resources, Janelle Gale, in an internal company memo, described the workforce reduction as “part of our ongoing efforts to run the company more efficiently and enable us to offset other investments we are making.”

The “investments” in question likely relate to the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

Meta is building its own AI model. Its smart glasses product is also supported by advanced AI capabilities.

The company reduced hundreds of jobs in the Reality Labs division after the report emerged.

Additionally, Meta has closed three virtual reality (VR) studios at the beginning of 2026 as part of the metaverse business operations reduction.
