Meta releases Muse Image, an AI-powered image generator
Meta on Tuesday (7/7) released a new artificial intelligence (AI) based image generation model named Muse Image, developed by the company’s AI division, Meta Superintelligence Labs.
According to a report by TechCrunch on Tuesday (7/7), the feature, known internally by the code name “Mango”, can be accessed for free through the Meta AI application, WhatsApp, and Instagram Stories.
According to Meta, Muse Image enables users to create various images based on text prompts, similar to other AI image generation models. The company also stated that Muse Image comes with “presets”—ready-to-use prompts designed to help spark ideas for users lacking inspiration or original concepts.
However, the feature has come under scrutiny because it allows users to utilise photos from public Instagram accounts to be recreated as AI images. Users simply need to tag the relevant account, and the system can then use photos from that account as a basis for generating new images. Instagram users will not receive a notification when their photos are used by others to create AI content.
Nevertheless, Meta stated that users have control over this feature. Privacy settings allow users to disable content scraping for AI generation purposes.
In addition to image creation, Muse can be used to automatically generate advertising materials and assist in interior design visualisation. Meta provided an example where Muse could be used to see how second-hand furniture would look in a room before purchase. This capability is planned to be integrated with Facebook Marketplace.
Muse also supports prompt-based image editing. Users can request the system to add or remove objects in a photo, create new illustrations, and generate functional QR codes via text instructions.
Alongside the launch of Muse, Meta introduced a series of new AI effects for Instagram Stories, allowing users to apply various filters and visual modifications to photos.
Meta stated that Muse Image is available for free for everyday content creation needs. However, users will be required to pay a subscription fee to access the feature once they exceed certain usage limits.
