Meta Launches Standalone Forum App to Challenge Reddit

Meta has launched a standalone app called Forum, a community-based platform designed to deliver in-depth discussion experiences similar to Reddit. In its description, Meta describes Forum as a dedicated space built for meaningful discussions, accurate answers, and community activities.

The Forum app was first discovered by social media consultant Matt Navarra. It has since appeared on the App Store, drawing attention from social media users and technology analysts.

The app integrates directly with users’ Facebook accounts. After logging in, users can view groups, profiles, and activities, as well as post using pseudonyms, mirroring the experience on the main Facebook app.

Despite being a separate application, Meta emphasises that user groups remain on Facebook. All posts made via Forum will still appear in the corresponding Facebook groups.

“Forum’s feed centres around group conversations, allowing users to see what people are saying rather than just what’s trending, and making it easier to continue discussions that were previously abandoned,” Meta stated, as reported by TechCrunch on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

Forum also features several AI-powered tools. An ‘Ask’ tab allows users to pose questions and receive summarised answers from discussions across various groups. Additionally, an AI assistant for admins helps with community management and content moderation.

This is not the first time Meta has launched a dedicated group feature. In 2014, the company introduced Facebook Groups to facilitate content sharing between groups, but the feature was discontinued in 2017.
