Meta introduces two new content settings to strengthen protection on teen accounts

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Meta has announced the introduction of two new content settings to strengthen protection on teen accounts on its social media platform Instagram.

The two new settings are content controls aligned with the film rating standard PG-13 and Limited Content.

“We have updated the content settings for teen accounts by applying age 13+ (PG-13) film rating criteria starting with Instagram. In other words, by default teens will only see content appropriate for their age, as they would see in films,” said Bernie Moestafa, Meta’s Head of Public Policy for Indonesia, at the event “Cerdas Digital 2026: Safe Teens, Peace of Mind for Parents” in Jakarta, on Friday.

This setting, according to Bernie, applies across all features available on teen accounts, from Stories, Recommendations, Search, Comments, Direct Messages, to the AI experience.

The second content setting Meta is introducing in Indonesia for teen accounts is Limited Content.

With this setting, parents can more easily filter out much of the content considered inappropriate, and the content deemed safe can subsequently be tailored for their teen’s experience.

“For some parents, the 13+ film standard may still be too mature. Therefore, on Instagram we are also introducing a stricter new setting called Limited Content that filters more content within the teen account experience,” Bernie said.

This feature has now finally arrived in Indonesia and strengthens the 50 settings that Meta had previously introduced on teen accounts designed for users aged 13-15.

The hope is that with these two new settings, parents in Indonesia can protect their children while using Instagram as a space for self-expression in the digital realm, while preparing them to be wise and responsible when using digital space.
