Meta Introduces Muse Gadgets
Meta, the technology company, introduced Muse Gadgets on Friday (2/10), an open-source project that enables developers to create hardware capable of connecting with Muse.
Muse is Meta’s personal artificial intelligence (AI) agent, which can assist users with tasks such as booking travel services, filling out forms, and shopping.
According to a report from TechCrunch on Friday (2/10), Meta is providing open-source firmware and a Linux Software Development Kit (SDK), along with several project ideas to help Muse Gadgets users begin their hardware development efforts. Ideas presented include providing Muse with a colour e-ink screen or installing Muse on a stick-shaped device that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port.
In its notes, Meta stated that users can also set up low-cost hobbyist computers, such as the Raspberry Pi or commercially available ESP32 boards, and connect Muse to screens, buttons, sensors, actuators, and anything else available on a workbench.
The company has established a Discord channel to support Muse Gadgets users.
Meta has already begun testing the technology. Nat Friedman, Head of Product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, shared on the X platform that the company has created a device named Muse Home Link.
This USB-C powered device allows Muse to connect to home networks and communicate with smart devices within the home, including smart speakers and TVs.
According to Friedman, Meta has produced 5,000 units of Muse Home Link to be distributed free of charge to Muse subscribers. However, given that Friedman’s post regarding Muse Home Link reached nearly 30,000 views within a few hours, the free stock may have already been exhausted.
The Muse Gadgets project is seen as aligned with Meta’s strategy to make Muse more than just a standalone chatbot. Meta does not only intend to market Muse to general consumers; the company also aims to attract small businesses and large corporations to utilise its AI agent.
Earlier this week, Meta introduced Muse for Small Business, a free service with usage limits that connects Muse to various platforms such as Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. The company also launched the Meta Enterprise Platform business unit to assist in marketing AI-based services to business players and corporate customers.
