Met with Cheers of 'Father Has Returned Home', Jokowi Crowded by Residents at Kupang CFD

The visit of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has once again captured public attention. While attending a leisure walk during the Car Free Day (CFD) event in Kupang City on Saturday, 1 August 2026, Jokowi was greeted enthusiastically by thousands of residents crowding the area around the NTT Governor’s Office.

Wearing a white jacket, Jokowi arrived accompanied by the Vice Chairperson of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Advisory Board Grace Natalie, PSI DPP Vice Chairperson Isyana Bagoes Oka, and Ronald A. Sinaga. As soon as he stepped out of his vehicle, Jokowi was immediately surrounded by residents eager to shake hands and capture moments together. The atmosphere became even more vibrant as several residents shouted greetings, suggesting that Jokowi had “returned to his hometown.”

“Our beloved Father has returned home,” said one Kupang resident. Shortly after, similar shouts were heard from the crowd filling the event location, with others chanting, “Father has returned, Father Jokowi has returned home.”

Public enthusiasm was not limited to Jokowi alone. The General Chairman of PSI DPP, Kaesang Pangarep, who arrived shortly after, also drew significant attention. Jokowi’s youngest son was approached by residents taking turns requesting photos.

Jokowi’s visit to NTT is scheduled to last for three days. On the previous day, the former President visited Oesina Beach and engaged in dialogue with seaweed cultivation entrepreneurs. Following the leisure walk at the Kupang CFD, Jokowi is scheduled to attend the PSI Kupang City Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda). His itinerary will continue with a cultural parade alongside the local community.
