On Thursday, the 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, welcomed Inter Miami CF to the White House to celebrate their MLS Cup 2025 triumph. Inter Miami had clinched the trophy in December 2025 after defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3-1 in the final. The achievement earned the entire squad an official invitation from Trump. Upon entering the Oval Office, the players stood behind Trump as the president delivered his welcome speech. In front of the team, Trump delivered a special address to Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi. ‘It is an honour for me to say what no other president has said before,’ Trump said, according to Sportbible. ‘Welcome to the White House, Lionel Messi.’ Trump also referred to his son Barron Trump as a big fan of Messi. ‘He (Barron) is a big fan of yours,’ Trump said. ‘He regards you as a great man.’ Trump then noted that Barron also admires the star from Portugal. ‘He is a big fan of yours, as is a man named Ronaldo,’ Trump said. Trump then praised the player who now plies his trade with Al Nassr FC. ‘Cristiano is a great player,’ Trump said.
