Merti Golong Gilig Tradition: How Dipowinatan Residents Nurture Unity

The streets of Kampung Wisata Dipowinatan, Keprakan, Mergangsan, Yogyakarta, were transformed into a space of togetherness on Tuesday (18/8/2026). Hundreds of residents took part in the Merti Golong Gilig procession, held as an expression of unity and togetherness as well as a strengthening of the spirit of nationalism.

Procession participants walked together through the Kampung Wisata Dipowinatan area as part of the Merti Golong Gilig tradition. Amid the diversity of the residents, their steps in unison became a symbol of the spirit to continue living in harmony.

Residents joined the Merti Golong Gilig procession with great enthusiasm. The tradition, held every year, serves as a meeting space as well as a way for residents to instil the values of unity and nationalism in the next generation.
