Merapi hurls more lava

SEMARANG, Central Java: Mt. Merapi hurled lava more than 2,000 times last month with a maximum range of 1.7 kilometer.

The office for the monitoring of Mt. Merapi said in July the volcano belched 1,282 times.

In August Mt. Merapi was rocked by tectonic quakes 34 times.

There was also one volcanic quake, measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale, on Aug.13, Antara reported. (sim)
