The Banten Provincial Government has announced travel management measures for the Rangkasbitung-Merak railway route during the Eid holiday period in 2026. Trains will not terminate at Merak Station but will stop only at Cilegon Station.

“From 13 to 20 March, during the outbound and return holiday travel periods, trains will not reach Merak Station, but will only travel as far as Cilegon Station,” said Tri Nurtopo, Head of the Banten Provincial Transportation Department, on Wednesday (11/3/2026).

According to Tri, Cilegon was selected to avoid passenger congestion during the holiday exodus. Additionally, Cilegon Station is considered better equipped to handle train services.

Beyond Cilegon Station, there are two further stations: Krenceng and Merak. According to Tri, shuttle services will transport passengers to these two stations.

“There will be minibus services that will take passengers to Krenceng and Merak, as there are two more stations after that,” he said.

Furthermore, Tri announced that the regional government, in cooperation with relevant agencies, is preparing facilities and equipment in the field.

“Equipment has already been prepared in the field, and Ciwandan Port is also ready. We have 19 points, but some cover holiday travel and some tourism routes. So later, once some people have completed the holiday travel monitoring, if it becomes quiet, they will be transferred to the tourism route,” he explained.

The Banten Transportation Department has also prepared 13 Traffic Control Posts (Pos Gatur Lalin) distributed across several vital locations. These posts are located at the Merak Toll Exit, Merak Flyover, Merak KSKP Office Junction, Km 68A Rest Area on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, Ciwandan JLS Junction, Cilegon PCI Junction, and the Pelindo Ciwandan Port area.

Monitoring is also being conducted on routes leading to tourism areas, including Anyer Market, Anyer Lighthouse, Teneng Junction, Rangkasbitung Toll Exit, and Bitung Junction in Tangerang Regency.
