MER-C and TPM Urge Israel to Be Brought to ICC, Here is the Reason

The deaths of three Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel during a peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon have sparked strong condemnation from MER-C Indonesia and the Muslim Lawyers’ Team (TPM). Both organisations are urging that the responsible parties, including Israel, be brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes. MER-C and TPM have expressed deep condolences over the passing of Praka Farizal Rhomadhon, Kapten Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, and Sertu Muhammad Nur Ichwan. The three fell during a series of attacks on 29-30 March 2026 in the area of operations of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Chairman of the MER-C Indonesia Presidium, Hadiki Habib, emphasised that attacks on peacekeeping forces constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law. “The fallen TNI soldiers were carrying out a noble mandate as part of an international mission to maintain world peace. Their deaths are clear evidence that the conflict situation in Lebanon is worsening and no longer respects the basic principles of international humanitarian law,” said Hadiki in a press release received on Thursday (2/4/2026). MER-C and TPM assess that the attacks meet the elements of war crimes as stipulated in the ICC’s Rome Statute, which prohibits attacks on UN peacekeeping personnel and facilities. “Thus, Israel’s repeated military actions targeting UNIFIL personnel not only constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law but also a crime that can be prosecuted before the International Criminal Court,” said Hadiki.
