Jakarta (ANTARA) - MER-C Indonesia, together with the Muslim Lawyers’ Team (TPM), has urged the Indonesian Government to take firm diplomatic steps after three TNI soldiers attached to UNIFIL were killed in an Israeli attack on Lebanon.

“We urge the Indonesian Government, particularly the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to take firm diplomatic action and bring this case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC),” said TPM representative Achmad Michdan during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

They also called on the government to evaluate protection protocols for TNI personnel in conflict zones.

Both organisations demanded full accountability from Israel, including an independent investigation, prosecution of those responsible on the ground as war criminals, and compensation for the victims’ families and the Indonesian Government.

In addition, they pressed the UN Security Council to condemn the attacks on UNIFIL and establish an independent investigation mechanism.

“The UN Security Council is also demanded to strengthen the protection mandate for peacekeeping forces and to refer this case to the ICC if necessary,” he said.

TPM and MER-C also called on the international community to act immediately on the repeated war crimes.

“Global solidarity is needed to ensure that there is no impunity for perpetrators of crimes against peacekeeping forces,” he stated.

The three soldiers who fell were Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, who died on 29 March due to artillery fire, Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, who died on 30 March while leading an escort mission, and Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur Ichwan, who died in a vehicle explosion incident.
