MER-C and Muslim Lawyers' Team Express Condolences Over Death of Three TNI Personnel
Jakarta (ANTARA) - MER-C Indonesia, along with the Muslim Lawyers’ Team (TPM), has expressed deep condolences over the deaths of three TNI personnel while carrying out their duties as peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon.
“We also extend our condolences over the deaths of the three TNI personnel who were carrying out a humanitarian mission as peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon,” said the Chairman of the MER-C Indonesia Presidium, Hadiki Habib, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Hadiki also condemned the murder of the humanitarian team, emphasising that humanitarian tasks in conflict areas must receive protection and not become targets of violence by any conflicting parties.
He explained that Indonesia’s activities in UNIFIL in the Lebanon area have been ongoing since 2006, and to date, following the escalation of warfare in the Middle East region, Lebanon’s condition has become increasingly dire.
“The situation has now fallen into what we call a global humanitarian crisis in that region,” he said.
Therefore, his side strongly condemns all forms of attacks against peacekeeping personnel or humanitarian workers in the Lebanon area.
To address the situation of humanitarian workers in Lebanon, he said, MER-C Indonesia will also prepare a humanitarian mission to the region.
On that occasion, Achmad Michdan, representing TPM, also expressed condolences over the deaths of the three TNI soldiers in Lebanon.
“May this become part of their noble duty; InsyaAllah, because of this duty, they become martyrs and syahid,” he said.
He also urged that this incident receive attention from the Indonesian government, considering that this noble duty is also protected by law, both under international law and the laws of war that have been ratified.
The three fallen soldiers are Praka Farizal Rhomadhon, who died on 29 March due to an artillery attack; Kapten Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, who died on 30 March while leading an escort mission; and Sertu Muhammad Nur Ichwan, who died in a vehicle explosion incident.
