The Ministry of Transmigration (Mentrans) and partner universities are refining the 2026 Patriot Expedition programme. Discussions cover the composition of field teams and the 2026 budget allocation to ensure greater focus and alignment with development needs in transmigration areas.

Mentrans Minister Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara explained that the 2026 Patriot Expedition is focused on 10 transmigration areas in Papua. This represents a strategic step by the government to accelerate development and enhance community welfare in Indonesia’s Eastern Region.

“Why Papua has also become a final decision for 2026, considering the President’s focus on welfare development in Papua,” said Iftitah in a press statement in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Iftitah hopes that the programme will not only target physical outputs but also sustainable social impacts. This includes aspects of economy, education, health, and social harmony. “Collaboration between government, universities, and communities is key to inclusive development in Papua,” stated Iftitah.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mentrans Viva Yoga Mauladi emphasised the importance of cross-ministerial and institutional synergy, particularly the integration of agricultural programmes through the prospective farmer and prospective location (CPCL) scheme. With a specific strategy, they are synergising and collaborating with other ministries and state institutions to ensure the success of the 2026 Patriot Expedition.

“Then we focus on, for agriculture, the CPCL can enter transmigration areas, so the programme does not only rely on the state budget from the Ministry of Transmigration, but can also engage programmes from other ministries, but the location and focus are in transmigration areas,” said Yoga.
