Ahead of the month of Ramadan, Menteng Pulo public cemetery has begun to fill with visitors. Grave visitation is a deeply rooted tradition observed before entering the fasting month.

Based on detikcom’s observations at the location on Monday (16/2/2026) at 12.51 WIB, visitors were already filling Menteng Pulo Cemetery in Tebet District, South Jakarta. They brought scattered flowers and water to pour over the graves.

The visitors were seen praying for their deceased family members. After praying, some also captured the moment by taking photographs at their relatives’ graves.

“It was busier yesterday on Sunday; today the paths are still fairly clear. Yesterday, the lanes along the edges of the cemetery were packed with motorbikes,” said a vendor at Menteng Pulo Cemetery.

“But it’s still quite a lot of people today, because it’s tradition — before fasting, many people come here to visit graves,” the vendor added.

The Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance (Bimas Islam) announced that the Isbat Session to determine 1 Ramadan 1447 H will be held tomorrow, Tuesday (17/2), at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Central Jakarta.

The session will be chaired directly by Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar and will involve various strategic parties, including representatives of Islamic social organisations, astronomy experts, and state institutions.

The participation of these various parties demonstrates that the decision will not be made unilaterally, but rather through collective deliberation that takes into account aspects of Islamic law, science, and public policy.
