Mentally Disturbed Woman Disrupts Independence Day Ceremony in Indramayu, Nearly Embraces Lucky Hakim

An unexpected incident marked the 81st anniversary ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence at Alun-alun Indramayu, West Java. A woman believed to be suffering from a mental disorder suddenly barged in and nearly embraced Indramayu Bupati Lucky Hakim.

The incident took place in the middle of the flag-raising procession on Monday (17/8/2026). At the time, the Indramayu Regency Paskibraka was carrying out its duty to hoist the Red and White flag.

Hundreds of participants, consisting of students, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police, and various other elements, were standing at attention. Suddenly, a woman dressed in red walked towards Bupati Lucky Hakim, who was leading the ceremony.

Combined security personnel on duty around the location immediately acted swiftly to stop her. The woman was then directed away from the ceremony area and taken to the back of Alun-Alun Indramayu.

Thanks to the quick response of the officers, the ceremony proceeded without significant disruption. Participants continued to follow the independence commemoration proceedings in an orderly and solemn manner until completion.

Head of Public Relations of the Indramayu Police, AKP Tarno, confirmed the incident, stating that the woman was successfully evacuated by personnel. According to him, the woman had intended to approach and even embrace Lucky Hakim, but that intention did not materialise because officers managed to prevent it.

“Alhamdulillah, it did not happen (embracing the bupati), because the officers on standby acted quickly to secure her, and at the time of the incident almost everyone was focused on following the ceremony,” said Tarno.
