Mentally Disabled Man in North Sumatra Beaten to Death by Resident After Rampage
A man described as having a mental disability, identified by the initials JKK (57), has died after being assaulted by a resident in Karo Regency, North Sumatra. Police have since arrested one perpetrator.
Head of Criminal Investigation at the Karo Police, AKP Hizkia Siagian, stated that the incident took place in Perbesi Village, Tigabinanga District, on the evening of Saturday, 30 May. The suspect, identified as EVSD (29), was apprehended on Friday, 3 July.
“The Cobra Team moved swiftly and successfully captured EVSD, who had previously been a fugitive,” Hizkia said on Saturday, 4 July 2026.
Investigations revealed the incident began when the victim was rampaging around a multipurpose hall in the village. According to the victim’s family, JKK suffered from a mental disorder.
During the rampage, JKK overturned a motorcycle parked at the location and threw stones at residents’ houses. Enraged by the victim’s actions, the suspect recklessly assaulted the victim with a bamboo pole.
Following the incident, the victim was rushed to Kabanjahe General Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday, 31 May.
The victim’s family subsequently filed a report with the Tigabinanga Police. After receiving the report, officers conducted a series of investigations, ultimately leading to the suspect’s arrest in Perbesi Village.
