The implementation of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 8 of 2025 on the Optimisation of Poverty Alleviation and the Elimination of Extreme Poverty requires evaluation, particularly to achieve the target of eliminating extreme poverty by 2026 and reducing the poverty rate to 5% by 2029. Eradicating extreme poverty needs to be supported by continuous improvements related to the progress of implementing Inpres No. 8 of 2025. “Our presence here today is important as a coordination step to complete the work of the Inpres,” said the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment of the Republic of Indonesia (Menko PM) Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), in a written statement on Monday (27/4/2026). This was conveyed by Cak Imin when opening the Ministerial Level Meeting on the Evaluation of the Achievements of Implementing Inpres No. 8 of 2025, at the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Office, on Monday (27/4). The Ministerial Level Meeting serves as a strategic step in accelerating and strengthening the synergy of poverty alleviation programmes. In addition to evaluation, concrete and measurable follow-up actions are needed by various parties with central roles to achieve the targets set by the government. Cak Imin stated that various intervention programmes have been carried out by the government. A total of Rp 129 trillion in regional budget funds has been realised, and Rp 503.2 trillion in national budget funds is available to support poverty alleviation programmes across Indonesia. Social assistance has also reached 8.56 million (93.6%) poor families. “Extreme poverty has successfully decreased from 1.26% in March 2024 to 0.78% in September 2025. Around 0.48% of the extreme poor population has moved up a class,” said Cak Imin. Meanwhile, the Minister of State Apparatus Utilisation and Bureaucratic Reform of the Republic of Indonesia (MenPAN-RB) Rini Widyantini added that the Inpres is not merely an administrative mandate, but rather the head of state’s effort to eliminate extreme poverty throughout Indonesia through the integration of programmes and cross-sectoral synergy. “In accordance with the mandate in item 34 of the Inpres, the Ministry of PANRB plays a central role in ensuring that the bureaucratic machinery is ready to support this vision, from preparing human resource formations, strengthening institutions, to orchestrating thematic business processes,” explained Rini. In following up on this mandate, the Ministry of PANRB has developed thematic business processes for poverty alleviation, established focuses for thematic bureaucratic reforms, and facilitated institutional strengthening and human resource fulfilment for the People’s School. In addition, innovations are being carried out through piloting the digitalisation of social assistance to improve the effectiveness and targeting accuracy of programmes. Rini then emphasised that poverty alleviation and the elimination of extreme poverty throughout Indonesia require programme integration and synergy, as well as cooperation between ministries/institutions (K/L) and regional governments (Pemda). “The key moving forward lies in strengthening coordination across ministries/institutions, data integration, and consistent implementation, so that poverty alleviation efforts are truly on target and have a real impact,” she concluded.
