Menhaj: Prabowo Seeks to Continuously Reduce Hajj Costs Each Year

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, stated that President Prabowo Subianto wants the cost of the Hajj pilgrimage (BPIH) to decrease continuously from year to year.

“President Prabowo said that we (the Government) will strive to reduce the costs each year. This will make us increasingly puzzled thinking about it,” Irfan said during the opening of the National Consolidation Meeting for the Implementation of Hajj Worship in 1447 Hijriah or 2026 AD at the Tangerang Hajj Hostel on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“I agree with what Mr Marwan (Chairman of Commission VIII) said; we certainly cannot keep fiddling with the prices, because the lower the price, the more it will reduce the quality,” he added.

The Menhaj reminded every Hajj task force team serving in the Holy Land to work to the best standards and with full responsibility.

“The emphasis is that service to pilgrims is a trust, not just an administrative task. Even a small mistake will have a very significant impact on the comfort and safety of the pilgrims,” he stated.

The Hajj cost for 2026 has decreased by Rp 2 million compared to 2025.

The BPIH for 1447 Hijriah or 2026 AD is Rp 87,409,366 from Rp 89,410,268.79, equivalent to Rp 2 million, decided based on the agreement between DPR RI Commission VIII and the Government.

“This year, in collaboration and coordination with friends from DPR Commission VIII, we can reduce it again by Rp 2 million,” said Irfan.
