TANGERANG - The Minister for Hajj and Umrah (Menhaj) of the Republic of Indonesia, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf or Gus Irfan, stated that the Hajj costs for 2026 have decreased by Rp 2 million compared to 2025.

The reduction in the Hajj Organisational Costs (BPIH) for 1447 Hijriah or 2026 CE is Rp 87,409,366 from Rp 89,410,268.79, equivalent to Rp 2 million, decided based on the agreement between the DPR RI Commission VIII and the Government.

“This year, in collaboration and coordination with friends from the DPR Commission VIII, we managed to reduce it by another Rp 2 million,” said Irfan at the opening of the National Coordination Meeting for the Consolidation of Hajj Worship Implementation for 1447 Hijriah or 2026 CE at the Tangerang Hajj Hostel, Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“President Prabowo said that we (the Government) will strive to keep lowering the costs every year. This will make us increasingly puzzled thinking about it,” Irfan remarked.

Nevertheless, Irfan does not want continuous price reductions because it would affect service quality.

“I agree with what Mr Marwan (Chairman of Commission VIII) said; we certainly cannot keep tinkering with the prices, because the lower the price, the more it will reduce quality,” he stated.

This is because negligence by Hajj officials has an impact that not only disrupts comfort but directly threatens the safety of pilgrims.

“The emphasis is that service to pilgrims is a trust, not just an administrative task. Even small mistakes will have a very significant impact on the comfort and safety of pilgrims,” he explained.

Previously reported, the government is not burdening pilgrims with additional Hajj costs despite the rise in avtur (aviation fuel) prices amid the Middle East geopolitical situation.

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that the Hajj costs for 2026 have already dropped by Rp 2 million from the 2025 Hajj costs.

However, for 2026, due to the increase in avtur prices, Airlangga stated that the government is holding the Hajj costs steady without any rise.

The government is allocating Rp 1.77 trillion from the state budget to cover the Hajj costs for 2026 due to the avtur price increase, which also affects Hajj expenses.

“Well, as we know, the Hajj costs have been reduced by Rp 2 million. Then, the impact of the avtur price increase is absorbed by the government. So there is no increase in Hajj costs,” Airlangga clarified during a press conference at the Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/4/2026).
