Menekraf: Indonesia's animation industry grows 3.3-fold in a decade
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Creative Economy Minister and Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that the Indonesian animation industry has grown more than threefold over the past decade as production and development of local Intellectual Property (IP) increases. “The Indonesian animation industry has grown from around Rp240 billion in 2015 to Rp800 billion in 2025. This means our animation economy has risen by more than 3.3-fold over the past ten years with an average growth of 13 percent,” the minister said at the launch and press conference for the Indonesia Animation Report 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday. He said the growth shows the national animation industry is moving from merely a production services provider for international IP to the creation of original IP works by the nation’s youth. “This phenomenon confirms the transformation of Indonesia’s animation industry which used to be a service provider for various international IPs but can now create a range of original IP works by Indonesian creators,” he said. Riefky noted that current members of the Indonesian Animation Industry Association (AINAKI) have 299 local IP characters. “This achievement proves in real terms that the quality of our animators’ works is already at a highly competitive level and ready to achieve economic sovereignty,” he said. He added that the government continues to strengthen the animation industry ecosystem through research-based policy, protection of intellectual property, and the development of IP-based financing. The Indonesia Animation Report 2026 was officially launched by the Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya. The report is a comprehensive study that maps out the conditions, potential, and challenges of the national animation industry.
