Mendiktisaintek: LPDP Scholarship Recipients Must Contribute to Indonesia's Progress

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Education, Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto has called on all recipients of the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) scholarships to achieve excellence and make meaningful contributions to national development.

This was conveyed by the Minister during a dialogue with 200 recipients of the LPDP 273rd batch at the TNI Air Force Command School Complex (Sekkau) Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5).

“The hope is that after studying abroad, you can excel there and then provide significant impacts for Indonesia’s progress,” said Mendiktisaintek Brian Yuliarto in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Minister stated that the government encourages scholarship recipients, particularly those pursuing studies overseas, to be oriented towards contributing to Indonesia.

The Minister also emphasised that scholarships are part of a sustainable national talent development ecosystem. Therefore, the success of the programme is not measured by the number of recipients, but by the quality of outputs, outtakes, and outcomes produced.

“Scholarships are not the end. Do not feel finished after receiving them. On the contrary, it is the beginning to continue developing and contributing to the nation,” said the Minister.

In achieving this aspiration, the Minister stressed the importance of strengthening character, resilience, and independence as the main foundations of talent development.

“Do not be afraid of limitations. If we keep working and showing results, we can compete at the global level,” said the Minister.

The Minister underlined that as a developing country, Indonesia has the potential to become an advanced nation, which can be realised by leveraging national comparative advantages, such as rich biodiversity, large population, and geographical characteristics, supported by relevant and internationally competitive research and studies.

In agreement, LPDP Scholarship Director Dwi Larso emphasised that the current scholarship programme orientation is no longer solely on increasing access to higher education, but on creating measurable impacts.

“Scholarships do not only open access to education, but must be able to produce outstanding talents who make real contributions to Indonesia’s development,” said Dwi Larso.
